Chipping and Remapping

Here at BMsport we have been tuning BMWs since the early nineties which means we have been in the tuning industry for more than 17 years. We are proud to say that there are not many current BMW tuning companies that are older than us. Many companies out there have only been around a year or two looking to make a quick buck, and many more fly-by-nights have been and gone. We are also all from technical backgrounds with many NVQs, City & guilds, Btecs, ONCs, HNCs, HNDs and Degrees in our personal list of honours and all from the motortrade/motorsport industry. We are not accountants, solicitors, marketing people, ex-city traders pretending to be tuners, we are all petrol headed, enthusiastic and experienced tuners, diagnosors, repairers your BMW whether it is your loyal daily driver, your weekend track car or your full blown race car. We all drive BMWs, race BMWs and we all love BMWs and not one of us has just a standard BMW ;-)

Back in the early nineties we started building fast reliable 2.7 M20 engines with cams, head work, individual throttle bodies, 6 branch manifolds and the like. They left the competition in our dust. The only down side at that time was the engine electronics. Unable to do what we wanted to do in-house, we researched what equipment was available. As technicians we look at the products that are out there and find out how good they actually are. We don't buy the 'in' machine/equipment of the time. There's a lot of garage equipment out there that is sold by salesmen to salesmen, that's not our thing. So with the relevant research done and the equipment fitted and trained on, we then started mapping BMWs on our own rolling road using our own emulators and computers.

We were chip tuning long before the down load serial port revolution took hold. We have always played a big part in motorsport, currently running 6 cars in the Kumho Championship and building another 2 E36 M3s and an E46 M3. We have worked on and tuned many BMW race cars from many grids like Pre 93 touring cars, TTRS, Brit Car, LMA, Production BMW etc.

Currently, we now tune many many main stream BMWs via the serial port, and have been doing so since the dawn of the BMW serial port some time in the mid nineties. We are now at the stage where we can probably remap the entire BMW range one way or another, from the dawn of the motronic system in 1986, right up to the very latest BMW diesel.

With all the serial port programming we always ensure that your BMW is running the very latest BMW software before we start to map it for more power and torque. Generally speaking, remapping your car will also improve fuel economy, with the diesel remaps showing an average of 10% improvement. We also ensure that the gearbox software is up to date, so as to improve your entire driving experience. We can also fit and map most stand alone engine management systems and have had experience with mapping auto gearboxes with stand alone gearbox control systems to suit.

All power and torque increases quoted are estimates and are based on results of dyno testing a selection of vehicles. Engine wear and condition, fuel used and weather at time of testing will all affect the results and therefore it is impossible to guarantee the specific power increase. However the figures should give a fair idea of what gains to expect.
