Qualifying

All ready to go, Tom and Piers went out to do qualifying. After finally being released out of the assembly area the boys tried getting in some good times in but with persistent traffic and slower cars it didn't allow them to get into the swing of things until 5 minutes before the end of the session. With this in mind the lads tried getting themselves a good slot and went for it in the remaining minutes. Tom got a 10th with Piers set to line up alongside in 11th.

Race 1

With conditions dry and cool, the boys nervously got themselves onto the grid ready to drive Rockingham for the 1st time in anger. Both got a good start with Tom stealing 9th whilst Piers held position in 11th. The tight turn one hairpin was negotiated without incident by our boys and the rest of the field and the lads set about keeping their positions and attempting to get up the field. Whilst Piers battled with Colin Whitmore for 10th Tom was able to pull away by a few seconds only to be reeled in as the race progressed. For a couple of laps Piers continued trying to get past Colin whilst Colin in turn was battling to get past Tom. Then on lap 9 Tom over cooks it into turn three leaving the door open for Colin to get past. Colin took the invitation without having to be asked twice, Piers wasn't quite close enough to follow, but fellow team mate Tom let him through. This putting Piers 10th and Tom 11th. Piers continued to battle with Colin, but Colin's years of experience and defensive driving didn't allow Piers to get past. Chequered flag Piers 10th, Tom 11th.

Race 2

Sunday, arriving at a very wet paddock and cloudy Rockingham an inspection of the circuit was made. As the the pick-up trucks drove past us on the banked corner, the cloud of spray made it obvious that the circuit was very wet. With this, a decision was made to run on wet suspension settings. Cars all adjusted, the lads got themselves back on the grid with the positions they got from Saturdays race and then drizzle started. Piers our seemingly wet start specialist rocketed to a great start getting himself to 5th place before the 1st corner but with memories fresh in his mind from Silverstone, decided that defensive driving was in order for turn one . All the cars cleared turn one without any incidents with Piers finding himself behind Colin Whitmore again (you can see how this going to go). Meanwhile, Tom getting himself off with an ok start proceeds to accidentally hit the engine kill switch approaching turn one. The entire field sped past him as he scrambled to restart his engine. While Piers was trying to get past Colin, Tom was making progress up the field getting himself up to 13th position. As the circuit conditions got worse the pack split into different sections with the lead car of Garrie Whittaker gaining 2 seconds a lap on the following cars. Lap 7, Tom fighting to get 12th enters turn one with a little too much speed and not enough grip to make the car spin and again lose all the ground he had made up leaving him back of the field again. With a minor front bumper damage, Tom charged on again to try and get back his lost ground, but knowing he wouldn't get back to where he had got himself decided to make sure he finished the race and bring the car back in one piece. For most of the race Piers was again trying to find a way around the widest car in the world (sorry Colin) and the the chequered flag was waved with Piers again finishing just behind Colin Whitmore. Piers finished 10th and Tom 15th.

Jobs to Do Before Pembrey

We currently have the 2 most powerful cars in the championship, whilst this is a great feeling and ideal for the long straights, the weight penalty is proving to be a real disadvantage in cornering and braking and causing the tyres to go off quickly. So between now and 10/11 May we have to detune the cars so they can remove the weight penalty that they been given.
